A connected world is more than about connecting people. With the advent of 5G technology and the ability to pinpoint how and where any item is at any given moment in time and space, today we can manage and control a single-car, an entire traffic grid or a fleet of delivery vehicles.

With that ability comes a pantheon of ideas that still are undergoing tests and research. One thing is clear—the capabilities of such systems are rapidly being proven. The advent of connected transportation systems will include moving people, goods and services, and materials within our global supply chain. There still is work to be done, of course, but as this eBook demonstrates, the future of such a system is at hand.

We take you on that journey by starting with the technology—and its challenges. We look at how e-mobility includes both able-bodied and disabled individuals, and how the delivery of products may happen not from the skies, but down our sidewalks and streets. In the end, we’ll take a look at an academic approach to how that infrastructure could be
built out.
